The signing would mean City have burned through £76.5m on the two right-backs, with Walker costing an underlying £50m. Guardiola was constantly liable to focus on the full-back positions in the wake of discharging Gaël Clichy, Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna toward the finish of last season.
Guardiola and City had achieved an understanding on a basic level to sign Dani Alves after he exited Juventus yet the previous Barcelona player picked to join Paris St-Germain. The French club had offered the Brazilian twice as much in compensation.
Guardiola has included Monaco's assaulting midfielder Bernardo Silva (£43.6m) and the Benfica goalkeeper Ederson (£34.9m) to his squad and is quick to sign Pepe Reina from Napoli yet the Italian club need to keep the previous Liverpool No1 and have offered him an enhanced contract.
