John Terry has been named the new commander of Aston Villa in the wake of finishing his turn to the Championship club.

The previous Chelsea and England captain assumes control over the armband from James Chester as Steve Bruce plots an arrival to the Premier League.

"Aston Villa are satisfied to report John Terry as captain " the club said in a concise articulation.

The 36-year-old, who said he marked for Villa to abstain from playing against Chelsea, skippers his new side interestingly on Saturday in a pre-season cordial against Shrewsbury Town.

Terry put in 22 years at Chelsea and captained them from the 2004-05 season, winning five Premier League titles and additionally the Champions League and Europa League

The former England defender would have joined Westham instead but the former Chelsea player said he didn't want to play against his former team
